manciano

Located in the hills of Southern Tuscany, the town of Manciano is known as the “Spy of the Maremma”, offering, from its high position, some of the most splendid views of all of the Maremma, from the sea to the mountains, the hills to Bolsena Lake.

The town was founded during the High Middle Ages and is today a popular tourist destination not only as the home of centuries old and priceless monuments, churches and old buildings but also as place to admire the beautiful landscapes of this part of Tuscany.

Hidden amongst the streets of the Manciano are some splendid treasures of the area’s ancient past, these monuments and buildings tell the history of the countryside and include the Church of San Leonardo, the main sacred building of the town and home to the works of two famous local artists, Peter Aldi and Paris Pascucci; the Church of the Santissima Annunziata, built outside the city walls; the Fortress Aldobrandesca which, together with Senese House, is seat of the town hall and the Clock Tower, built by the Republic of Siena.
